Why do cats like catnip?

Do you have a cat and wonder why cats are so fond of catnip? Let's tell you!
Catnip, also called Nepeta cataria, is a dried herb containing an oil called hepatalactone. There is something that, after inhalation, can make the cat confused as they end up in a form of ecstasy. The catnip is often used in cat toys.
 
The catnip is not dangerous to the cat and will not cause any permanent damage. Some cats may find that the scent is stressful and that the scent is too difficult to handle.
