Giving the cat his or her own bed can give it peace of mind. Then the cat gets its own place to retire to when it wants to be by itself. Cat beds can be of many different models. A soft bed can be a pad, mattress or a bed with raised edges that is soft and comfortable to lie on. There are also special orthopedic beds made from memory foam that conform to the cat's body. Pads, blankets and some beds can be put in the cat's cage when traveling or transporting the cat. If your cat does not sleep in your bed with you, you may place a cat bed in the bedroom, or some other room, so that the cat gets a completely separate place to sleep.

A type of bed that is appreciated by cats who like to be alone every now and then is an igloo or cave. These nest beds give the cat more privacy and can be a good alternative if you have more cats or pets at home. A "kitty igloo" or "kitty cave" usually has both ceiling and walls so that the cat can snuggle into the bed and be alone when it rests.
