Playing Rods and Other Cat Toys

A playing rod is a clear favorite of many kitty cats. The cat can use paws and teeth to try to get hold of what is in the end of the stick and get to run and jump around. When playing with the cat with this toy, you can choose how much the cat moves, which is great if you have a cat that needs exercise. Playing rods can be dragged around the floor and furniture so that the cat can run, climb and jump to chase it - or you can play a little more carefully on a smaller surface. What is a playing rod?

A playing rod is a cat toy consisting of a rod, or a stick, with something fun at the end. It can be feathers, strings, something that rustles, a fabric mouse, a ball of yarn, a soft toy or other fun things. It's a bit like a fishing rod, though with the purpose of activating and playing with the cat. Attract the cat to play by waving or dragging it around on the floor and furniture so the cat can chase it. If the cat has a climbing tree or other cat furniture, these can be included in the game by pulling the playing rod at the right speed up the climbing surfaces so that the cat can follow. A playing rod can activate most cats, as it stimulates the cat's natural hunting instincts. This makes it a really good cat toy to give the cat exercise. If you have children, this is a perfect toy as both the cat and the children tend to think it is fun to wiggle the rod when the cat follows.

Whether you have an indoor cat or outdoor cat, playing rods are a fun toy as they can be used both indoors and outdoors. An indoor cat that may not get so much exercise everyday can get a little extra when you play with a playing rod. Another feature of playing rods is that they are good at getting the cat's attention in different situations. It is a good tool when you want to take nice pictures of your cat as the cat usually follow intensively with their eyes which one can utilize. Wiggle the stick just above the camera, for example, and you get a nice picture where the cat looks up with an alert look. Some bring with them a playing rod to cat shows so that you can take the best pictures.
