Kruuse Colostrum Meter Refractometer
Colostrum refractometer that can be used for cows, horses, sheep, and goats, providing a quick assessment of colostrum quality using the Brix scale.
The quality of colostrum is measured as a percentage with a “cut-off value” of 22%.
An IgG concentration of 22% or higher is considered good colostrum quality and corresponds to an IgG level of 50 g/L.
These values can be used as guidelines for evaluating colostrum quality:
- Below 18%: the colostrum should not be given during the calf’s first day
- 18–22%: the colostrum can be given during the first day if a larger volume is provided
- 22% or more: can be given during the first day, but can also be frozen
- 25% or more: optimal for freezing
