MSM - methylsulfonylmethane - is involved in a variety of processes in the horse's body and is a prerequisite for many functions. Among other things, it makes the cell walls elastic and more permeable, which simplifies nutrient absorption and oxygenation. MSM helps the muscles recover better after hard work and keep them flexible and mobile.

The horse's main source of MSM is grass. The MSM content decreases drastically when the grass is dried into hay, and in hay silage it is basically non-existent - horses that only walk on grass for a few hours a day thus ingest very little MSM. The need also increases the more the horse is trained and the older the horse is. MSM can be given without risk of overdose as it is considered a completely non-toxic feed supplement.
